![]() The one mic position in Gold is not that flexible. If you do decide on EWQL, look at either Platinum, or the Gold + other mic positions. Oh, one drawback to VSL is the lack of a second violin section (there are well-known work-arounds). Overall, if I had to choose either one or the other, I would choose VSL, and that choice wouldn't even be close. If your interest is primarily film scoring, then EWQL would perhaps be the better choice. ![]() To me, VSL covers a lot more stylistic ground than EWQL. With VSL, there is a real learning curve, but it can be well worth it. The advantage to EWQL is that it sounds fairly good right out of the box. EWQL's Play software, while much improved, IMO, is not in the same league. The GUI is also very well laid out, allows for great flexibility, easy creation of custom presets, and very clear mixing features. Not quite equal to the full libraries, as there are fewer velocity layers and samples are whole tone rather than chromatic. I have also found that the articulations in the Plus to be important. Depending on what you want to do the extended packages are also valuable, and IMO necessary to fill out the sections/instruments of the orchestra. Another + for the Vienna Special Edition series, both extended and plus.
